Buena Park School District’s Ramon Miramontes Named CALSA Region 6 Superintendent of Year
BUENA PARK, CA – Buena Park School District Superintendent Dr. Ramon Miramontes was named a 2021 Superintendent of the Year by the California Association of Latino Superintendents and Administrators (CALSA), honoring efforts to improve the lives of students and eliminate the achievement gap.
Miramontes was chosen as the “Honoring Our Own” awardee for region 6 – which includes San Diego, Orange, Imperial, Riverside and San Bernardino counties – for demonstrating exceptional leadership in advancing equity and success for Latino students and their families during the 2020-21 school year.
“In Buena Park School District, Dr. Ramon Miramontes is the recipient of Superintendent of the year for CALSA Region 6, for his laser-focused leadership on keeping ‘students first’ with equity and access during this unprecedented pandemic experience,” CALSA President Ivan Chaidez said. “Our CALSA Familia is proud of Dr. Miramontes’ leadership along with all CALSA’s ‘Honoring Our Own’ recipients.”
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Miramontes developed and expanded a variety of services, including extending online student support time, implementing regular award events to encourage students to persevere and establishing a partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of Buena Park that allows students to use the Club’s facilities and internet.
Miramontes, who joined the District as Superintendent in 2018, has more than 30 years of experience in public education. Throughout his career, Miramontes has served as a classroom teacher, middle school assistant principal, elementary and K-8 principal and director of personnel at Norwalk-La Mirada Unified and the Los Angeles County Office of Education.
Miramontes dedicated the award to the District, shining a light on the astounding work his team has accomplished in the last three years, which includes three Orange County Department of Education Teachers of the Year, a nominee for the 2021 Exemplary Women in Education Award from the Association of California School Administrators and five National Board-Certified Teachers.
“This award is a very humbling experience, but it is not my award alone. To me, this recognition is about the tireless work of everyone in our District,” Superintendent Dr. Ramon Miramontes said. “I’m lucky and honored to work with the best teachers, staff and administrators in the country – their work means our students are succeeding, growing and getting better every day.”
