WHAT: Former Baldwin Park Unified Board of Education member Jack B. White – who served on the school board for 22 years and as Baldwin Park’s mayor for 10 years – will be recognized and celebrated for his lifelong dedication to his community during a memorial service.

White passed away May 23 at the age of 85 of natural causes, according to his daughter, Jackie White, a retired principal of Sierra Vista High School. White was first elected to the Board of Education in 1970 and served as president from 1974 to 1978. He later returned to the Board of Education in 2001 and retired in December 2015.

DETAILS: Mr. White was a dedicated leader who had a profound impact on the city of Baldwin Park, Baldwin Park Unified School District and the wider community. He served in the Korean War as a paratrooper for the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division from 1951 to 1955.

White worked as police commander for the Los Angeles Police Department in 1976, and served as chief of the Bureau of Investigations for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office from 1984 to 1992.

White is survived by his wife, Edna; his children: Angela, Jackie and Stan; and his four grandchildren.
