Whittier Union to Celebrate Scholars During College Signing Day Ceremonies
WHITTIER – Hundreds of Whittier Union High School District seniors will celebrate the next steps toward their academic futures during College Signing Day ceremonies held across the comprehensive high schools, with over 100 students attending UCLA’s National Signing Day, hosted by former first lady Michelle Obama, on May 1.
Seniors will be celebrated during campus events for their commitment to continuing their education at a four-year university, community college, the military or vocational school, inspiring crowds of underclassmen to work toward similar goals.
Santa Fe High School will hold its event at noon Wednesday, May 1. Students will be invited to sign a poster proclaiming their intent to attend college.
Pioneer High School will hold its celebration at 12:25 p.m. Thursday, May 2 in the student quad. Students will walk a green carpet holding posters with the names of the colleges they will attend.
La Serna High School plans to take a bus full of seniors to attend the UCLA event, part of Obama’s Reach Higher initiative. That same day, La Serna students will take a look back to when they were kids for Way Back Wednesday. The school will hold its Acceptance Day on Thursday, May 2. Students will wear college garb, fill out college pennants and receive balloons in the color of their future school.
Whittier High School will hold its event at 12:25 p.m. Friday, May 3, during which seniors will be invited to sign a large “I’m Going to College” poster and declare the college of their choice. The school plans to take a bus of 50 seniors to the UCLA event.
California High School will hold a Decision Day celebration at 12:30 p.m. Friday, May 3. Students will share their post-secondary college/career plans on posters that will be on display in the small quad. There will be music, photo booths and giveaways for students. The school plans to take a bus of its top seniors to the UCLA event.
