WHITTIER – The Whittier Union High School District Board of Trustees will consider the adoption of a final trustee map and sequence of elections as it prepares to transition from at-large elections to trustee-area elections during a public hearing at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19.

The Board narrowed the number of draft maps for consideration from six to three – NDC Green, NDC Orange, NDC Purple – on Jan. 15 following comments taken during community open houses held in November and December, comments submitted online and input provided during previous public hearings at the board meetings.

The District received an additional map submission – C. Perez 2 – on Jan. 23 after the Board had reduced the number of maps.

The community is encouraged to review and continue submitting feedback on the maps at the WUHSD District Formation Process website, or at the Feb. 19 public hearing.

Each map features a short description detailing the rationale behind how the trustee areas were drawn.

The approved map is expected to be presented to the Los Angeles County Committee on School District Organization following the meeting. The Committee will approve the map at a later date.

The first election under the by-trustee area voting model will take place in 2020. Residents will vote for a single Board of Trustees candidate residing in their newly drawn trustee area.

The process began in October 2018 and included six community open houses, several meet-the-demographer sessions and presentations to community stakeholder groups.
