Paramount, CA – Emphasizing its focus on college and career, Paramount Unified School District distributed personalized College Readiness Guides (CRG) to parents in April to prepare them for their children’s college journeys.

The guide went out to English-speaking families on April 5 and to Spanish-speaking families on April 11. A total of 3,427 students, in grades ninth through 12th, were provided the CRG.

The report reviewed each student’s coursework, grades and test scores to illustrate the colleges and universities for which the student is eligible. The guides include the progress each student has made toward completing California’s requirement for admission to a four-year college or university and steps to complete the requirements.

Students and parents were provided a thorough explanation of requirements needed for University of California and Cal State University campuses, as well as community college and private colleges and universities. The report also listed all graduation requirements, highlighting the steps students need to take to stay on track to receive their diploma.

In addition to the CRG, Paramount Unified pays for all students in eighth to 12th grades to take the PSAT and SAT. The District has also increased access to Advanced Placement courses for all students and uses programs such as Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) and career technical education pathways to grow a college-going culture at all schools.

“Paramount Unified is committed to ensuring all of our students are prepared for both college and career,” Superintendent Dr. Ruth Pérez said. “This guide will allow our students to take responsibility for their education and give them the information they need to reach their academic goals.”
