SAN YSIDRO – San Ysidro School District’s Preschool & Child Development Program is now accepting applications for the 2016-17 school year. The program, which is staffed by professional preschool teachers, instructional aides and support staff, provides services for children between 3 to 5 years old and is available three hours a day, five days a week.
The program is designed to provide children with age-appropriate classroom activities that will lead to the development of their social, physical, cognitive and language growth while in a safe and nurturing environment. The program’s integrated curriculum model incorporates California Preschool Learning Foundation’s mandated guidelines, which were set in place to promote optimum growth in students.
In order to ensure quality care, classrooms are broken down into a one staff member to eight children ratio, with no more than 24 students per class.
“A solid preschool education provides a great foundation for future academic success and we want all of our students to have the best start possible,” San Ysidro School District’s Superintendent Dr. Fonseca said. “With our fantastic staff in the Preschool and Child Development Program, I know we are giving our young community members the best education possible.”
Through various approaches, the program encourages student-driven instruction, allowing the children to develop the ability to make individual choices, challenges students to explore mathematical content and problem solving, and connects home and school through activities designed to increase language development and vocabulary.
“A proper early education is vital for future educational success,” San Ysidro School District Board President Marcos A. Diaz said. “Our Preschool and Child Development Program is doing a terrific job equipping our younger students with the right building blocks specifically for that success.”
The 2016-17 school year beings Thursday, July 28, and the program is free of cost to eligible families. Enrollment packets are available at San Ysidro’s Preschool and Child Development Center, 1880 Smythe Ave., San Ysidro.
