WHAT: The Teachers Association of Norwalk-La Mirada (TANLA) is hosting its second annual back-to-school event – Caring Beyond the Classroom – to provide backpacks filled with school supplies to NLMUSD students in need. The District’s Health on Wheels mobile clinic will be on hand to provide immunization services to the first 100 students who attend.
WHEN: 9 a.m.-noon, Saturday, August 22
WHERE: NLMUSD offices, 12820 Pioneer Blvd., Norwalk – please note change of location
WHY: TANLA members hope to demonstrate their caring beyond the classroom by reaching out to their school communities in support of students and families in need of a little help preparing for the new school year. Established in 1996, Health on Wheels is a unique partnership between California State University Long Beach (CSULB) Research Foundation, City of Norwalk and the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District. It is a school-based mobile pediatric clinic that provides free health care services to the uninsured and underinsured children in the Norwalk-La Mirada school district. The professional bilingual staff consists of three licensed pediatric nurse practitioners, and a medical assistant. Once school begins on September 2, Health on Wheels will visit 10 school sites on a weekly rotating schedule throughout the school year.
