MALIBU, Calif. – In keeping with Malibu High School tradition, nearly 500 incoming students at Malibu Middle School attended “Get Your Stuff Day” on Tuesday morning, which is located on the Malibu High School campus. With parents in tow, sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders were able to register, pick up class schedules, take photos for school identification cards, purchase bus passes, P.E. gear and student planners, and meet up with friends ahead of the first day of school on Tuesday, August 19.

“It’s great to see so many excited faces as we welcome a new class of sixth-graders, and welcome back our seventh- and eighth-graders,” said Principal David Jackson. “As a progressive middle school on a high school campus, there is so much to offer our middle-schoolers and this event is truly the kick-off to an active, fun and comprehensive school year.”

“Get Your Stuff Day” was followed by an exclusive event for incoming sixth-graders. The event included a personalized tour of the Malibu High campus with class schedules and high school interns, a question and answer session with current students and a free family barbeque that included games and raffles.

Parents of sixth-graders, or those new to Malibu High School, were also invited to attend a New Parent Orientation and Lunch in the school library. School policies, helpful logistical information, as well as an opportunity for questions, were discussed at the orientation.

“With the implementation of new state standards, like Common Core and the Local Control Accountability Plan, we continue to move forward, ensuring student success remains a core value at the District,” said Superintendent Sandra Lyon. “We look forward to another thriving year of student achievement and progress.”

“Get Your Stuff Day” for ninth- through 12th-grade students is scheduled for Wednesday morning at 8 a.m. Students will be able to turn in registration forms, purchase items such as bus passes, P.E. gear, ASB cards and a student parking pass, as well as take photos for school identification cards. High school students may also pick up or order books for the upcoming year, including honors and advanced placement required reading — with a percentage of book sales going to the MHS Shark Fund.
