Thirty-six Fontana Unified schools were honored with the Distinguished After School Health (DASH) program certificate, a new state award that recognizes programs that excel in providing health education, nutrition and physical activities for students. FUSD received the honor for programs at 29 elementary schools and seven middle schools that are on the cutting-edge of nutritional standards and which encourage healthy habits and exercise.
Sequoia Middle School has been named an Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) National Demonstration School, reflecting its thriving college-going culture and strong academic curriculum.
Fontana Unified’s Canyon Crest Elementary School has been named a P21 Exemplar School by the Battelle for Kids Partnership for 21st Century Learning (P21) for teaching students the skills needed to succeed in the modern workforce. Canyon Crest is one of 18 K-12 schools, school districts, early learning centers and beyond-school programs across the country to receive the designation this year.
Dolores Huerta International Academy teacher Malena Peterson was named the California Association for Bilingual Education (CABE) 2019 Teacher of the Year. Peterson will be honored during the CABE annual conference in Long Beach, held Wednesday, March 20 to Saturday, March 23.
