Azusa Unified Elementary Students Shine during School’s First Full Musical

Follow-up Story: More than 55 first- through fifth-graders from Azusa Unified’s Powell Elementary put on the school’s first full musical production and brought to life the timeless classic “Beauty and the Beast” during two performances on June 2. Students shined as beloved characters and as stage crew members before an audience of more than 100 family members and educators. Powell is Azusa’s first art-focused school, with an emphasis on an arts-integrated curriculum and hands-on learning. Azusa Unified’s Mountain View Elementary Joins No Excuses University

Azusa Unified’s Mountain View Elementary School has been selected to join No Excuses University, a national network of schools that focuses on college readiness. Azusa Unified Celebrates Class of 2017 Graduations

Four Azusa Unified Schools Win National ‘Healthy Schools’ Awards

Follow-up Story: The Alliance for a Healthier Generation has recognized four Azusa Unified schools for demonstrating a commitment to fostering health and wellness to students and staff. Slauson Middle School, Powell, and Mountain View elementary schools received the Bronze National Healthy Schools Award while Magnolia Elementary School received the Let’s Move! Azusa Unified to Offer Free Meals to Children During Summer Months

Azusa Unified School District will offer free lunches this summer to children ages 18 and under through the federal Summer Food Service program. Lunches will be served from noon to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday through July 28 at school campuses and public parks. Meals are available to any child residing within Azusa Unified boundaries. Two Azusa Unified Elementary Schools Dedicate Drought-Tolerant Gardens

Follow-up Story: Paramount and Mountain View elementary schools dedicated their new drought-tolerant gardens on April 27, celebrating completion of the Paramount and Mountain View Landscaping Water Conservation Project. Azusa Unified Advanced Auto Tech Students Build Electric Car

A group of 10 Azusa Unified School District students in Gladstone High School’s Advanced Auto Tech class are building a highway-ready electric car during an afternoon project. Students, who are working on the effort three days a week, hope to take the “Switch EV” vehicle for a test drive in three weeks. Photos are available. Azusa Middle School Students Discover Future College Majors at Sixth Annual Eighth-Grade Fair

Follow-up Story: Azusa Unified School District hosted the 8th Grade Majors Fair, a collaborative effort between Azusa Pacific University, Cal Poly Pomona and Citrus College on March 17, for a day of academic inspiration and exploration. Among dozens of booths were live demonstrations and interactive activities highlighting subject matters in science, math and technology. The fair provided more than 300 middle schools students with information about specific college majors and encouraged them to increase their knowledge of and interest in higher education. Azusa Unified to Host 11th Annual Mariachi Benefit Concert

Azusa Unified School District will host its 11th annual Mariachi Benefit Concert from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, May 19 at Gladstone High School, 1340 N. Enid Ave., Covina. More than 70 students from fourth to 12th grade representing Mariachi de Azusa and Danzantes de Mountain View will perform. Tickets are $10; under 18 are free.
