WHAT: Parents are graduating from a nine-week workshop that seeks to educate, empower and inspire parents of K–12 students to take an active role in encouraging and enabling their children to: stay in school; improve their academic performance; develop healthy and constructive relationships with their parents, teachers and counselors; and prepare themselves for a post-secondary education.

The workshop was offered by San Ysidro School District in partnership with The Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE) program. Graduating parents will receive a certificate of completion on behalf of PIQE and the California State University system.

DETAILS: Parents will be recognized for their hard work on behalf of their children’s education. Since its inception in 1987, PIQE has graduated 625,000 low-income parents in California. In 2016, PIQE San Diego served and graduated 1,491 parents at 31 K-12 schools to enhance the education of underserved students. The workshop is part of the District’s efforts to partner more closely with parents to ensure the overall academic and personal success of students.
