WHAT: More than 250 Paramount Unified School District staff members are expected to attend a Youth Mental Health First Aid training program as the District strives to better support the social and emotional needs of students.

Paramount Unified Superintendent Ruth Pérez will join employees of all levels as they gather for the eight-hour course that will teach attendees how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental issues and substance use disorders.

Youth Mental Health First Aid instructors will teach a five-step action plan that will help provide intervention for students and connect them with the appropriate support.

WHEN: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 5

WHERE: Paramount High School Senior Campus, 14429 Downey Ave., Paramount

DETAILS: The course will cover depression and mood disorders, anxiety, trauma, psychosis and substance use, among other topics.
