BALDWIN PARK – Long-time educator and Baldwin Park resident Betsabel Lara took the oath of office on Jan. 16 as Baldwin Park Unified School District’s newest Board of Education member.

Lara, a pupil services coordinator with the Los Angeles Unified School District, was selected unanimously by Baldwin Park Unified’s Board of Education on Dec. 11 to complete the term of Carlos Lopez, who stepped down in October due to health concerns.
“I am excited to contribute to this team so that we can strengthen our schools and impact our students in a positive way,” Lara said. “I am honored to fill this position because education is my passion and the students are our future.”

Lara will serve alongside President Teresa I. Vargas, Vice President/Clerk Diana E. Dzib and board members Santos Hernandez, Jr. and Christina Lucero. Lara’s seat will be up for election in November.

“We are delighted to welcome Betsabel to our board,” Board President Teresa I. Vargas said. “Her passion and dedication to serving the Baldwin Park community makes her the perfect addition to our team.”

“Congratulations to Betsabel on her appointment to the Board of Education,” Superintendent Dr. Froilan N. Mendoza said. “We look forward to a productive collaboration that will ensure we provide the best education for our students.”
