WHITTIER – The City of Santa Fe Springs recently honored Santa Fe High School with a new street sign commemorating the Whittier Union school’s Chieftain spirit and 63-year legacy in the community.

The City on Aug. 24 unveiled Chieftain Way – renaming the portion of Clarkman Street that turns into the school’s staff parking lot – during a celebratory ceremony that included members of the Whittier Union High School District Board of Trustees, Santa Fe Springs City Council and Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce.

“To the community, this is not just a street sign. It’s a symbol of pride, joy and spirit to all who have been impacted by the positive influence of Santa Fe High School,” Santa Fe High ASB President Christopher Reyes said. “As a representative of the students, I am very thankful to be able to add this symbol to the culture of our school and the spirit of our students. I’m extremely proud to be a Santa Fe Chieftain.”

The ceremony featured performances from the school’s pesters, band and cheer squad, as well as remarks from Santa Fe High graduate and Principal Craig Campbell.

“Santa Fe School is known for its educational excellence, where academics, athletics and activities flourish with the support of this city and our partners,” Campbell said. “We couldn’t be more thankful for the community’s support and what it means to our students, who are the heart of Santa Fe High School.”

As the only public high school in Santa Fe Springs, Santa Fe High School has developed a strong relationship with the city in support of student activities.

“When you look at schools that are exceptional, it’s always because they not only have the school district, but they have a city that fully supports them, and the City of Santa Fe Springs has always been a great partner with us in educating the kids of our community,” Whittier Union Superintendent Martin Plourde said. “This sign exemplifies the pride of this community and in this school. These students are our pride. We want them to have every opportunity to go to a great high school in a great community.”
