SAN GABRIEL, CA – San Gabriel Unified School District will complete its initiative to offer a 1:1 student-to-device ratio for all grade levels at the start of the 2017-18 school year.

The plan to provide classroom devices to every student is detailed in the District’s recently approved 2017-20 Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP), an element of the state’s school funding system that guides District efforts to improve student achievement by setting annual priorities and strategies to achieve those goals.

“When we integrate technology into the classroom, we empower our students to maximize their potential and prepare for the future,” SGUSD Superintendent Dr. John Pappalardo said. “We are thrilled to place technology in the hands of every student and cultivate an engaging, collaborative learning environment that promotes innovative thinking and lifelong educational excellence.”

The initiative aims to provide all San Gabriel Unified students with equal access to curriculum resources, research opportunities, project-based learning and standardized test preparation, as well as help students develop college and career readiness skills outlined in the California Standards.

Jefferson Middle School and Gabrielino High School will have a complete 1:1 student-to-device ratio when classes resume Aug. 21, joining San Gabriel Unified’s five elementary schools and Del Mar High School, which achieved full implementation in 2016-17.

Each school will use a combination of iPads, Chromebooks, MacBooks and Windows mobile devices to supplement classroom instruction and integrate with existing classroom technology, such as interactive whiteboards and student response systems. Jefferson Middle and Gabrielino High school students will also retain access to PCs and Macs in computer labs.

“Increasing access to technology in the classroom will help our students achieve digital literacy and prepare for the rigors of the professional world,” said SGUSD Board President Andrew Ammon. “We are proud to offer this opportunity to all San Gabriel Unified students and look forward to the positive impact it will have upon their education.”
