WHAT: Rio Hondo College will hold its annual two-day celebration of literature and the arts – the Writes of Spring – with a range of speakers representing Los Angeles area journalists, poets, novelists and musicians.

Wednesday, April 19
8:05 a.m.: Lissa Price has written two young adult novels that garnered praise from critics and fellow writers.
9:40 a.m.: Gustavo Arellano is editor and columnist for OC Weekly. His books include “Orange County: A Personal History” and “Taco USA: How Mexican Food Conquered America.”
11:15 a.m.: Phranc, who started her music career as a folksinger in the 1970s, is an icon of the punk music movement. She is also a visual artist.

Thursday, April 20
8:05 a.m.: Siel Ju has written two poetry chapbooks and is editor of Flash Flash Click, a weekly email lit zine for fast fiction.
9:40 a.m.: Dylan Hernandez has covered the Dodgers for the Los Angeles Times since 2007.
11:15 a.m.: Jeff Garvin is an actor, musician and novelist. His debut novel is an ALA Best Fiction for Young Adults Selection.

The event will include readings from the student literary journal, “River’s Voice,” at 2:30 p.m. each day.
