Rio Hondo College Honors Alumni, Campus Vets with ‘Wall of Courage’

WHAT: Rio Hondo College will honor alumni veterans at a special ceremony that will include a color guard, presentation of commemoration coins by Superintendent/President Teresa Dreyfuss and Board of Trustees Member Mary Ann Pacheco, as well as special remarks from veterans.

WHEN: 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8

WHERE: Rio Hondo College, 3600 Workman Mill Road, Whittier

DETAILS: Faculty member Josh Gallegos will give a special address about two Rio Hondo College alumni, classmates and fellow football players who died in Vietnam on the same day.

The event will also honor veteran Mark Tavera, who has served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Army Reserve. A sergeant major, Tavera served in South Korea among other posts, retiring after 16 years in 2007.

He is a former member of the Valley Lindo School Board of Trustees and a community volunteer.

The ceremony will be staged at the Rio Hondo College Veterans Memorial in the Lower Quad.
