WHAT: The Pomona Unified Family Support and Resource Center is hosting its fourth annual Elves’ Workshop for approximately 150 homeless and underprivileged families on Saturday, Dec. 12, providing students with the opportunity to “shop” for presents, giving parents the chance to win prizes and welcoming Santa Claus for photos.

Kindergarten through 12th-grade students will each be given 10 tickets toward the purchase of items for family members. Volunteers will act as personal shoppers and a gift wrapping station will be included.

Parents, meanwhile, will be in the next room playing games for the chance to win age-appropriate gift wrapped presents. Once students are done shopping, parents will be able to purchase any remaining items in the workshop for 25 cents.

WHEN: 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Dec. 12

WHERE: Village at Indian Hill Conference Center, 1460 E. Holt Ave., Entrance No. 4, Pomona

DETAILS: The Family Support and Resource Center supports PUSD students and families with a variety of services and referrals that address mental health, health care and housing, among other needs. Pomona Unified serves 2,500 homeless families and assists them with food, clothing and other necessities. This is one of many events the Center holds throughout the year to assist families in need. Each year, the Elves’ Workshop includes different sets of families, who have been invited to partake in the festivities. Organizers collected gently used items and new toys and gifts from community partners and the PUSD community. The event will feature game and arts and crafts rooms and photos with Santa Claus. Note: This event is not open to the general public.

Coverage of this event is welcome and greatly appreciated.
