WHAT: Students of Lynwood Unified will strap on their backpacks and take to the sidewalk on Oct. 4 to celebrate National Walk to School Day.

Five schools will observe the special day, including Roosevelt, Marshall and Wilson elementary along with Cesar Chavez and Hosler middle. Students will walk alongside parents, teachers and local service members, who will escort the groups to their schools. All participants will meet at the Lynwood Park basketball courts on a day that will celebrate healthy living and a safe community.

WHEN: Wednesday, Oct. 4, Participants meet between 7 and 7:30 a.m.

MORE: The City of Lynwood and St. Francis Medical Center have partnered with the District to recognize National Walk to School Day for the first time in the community.

Lynwood Director of Parks and Recreation Mark Flores, alongside Deputy Director Jose Trejo, will be in attendance as well as representatives from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

All students participating will receive a t-shirt and a gift bag. This year marks the 21st National Walk to School Day celebration.
