Community Now Seeks Volunteers for Moreno Valley Crossing Guards

WHAT: Community Now is looking for parents and community member volunteers to join their Crossing Guard Assistant Program as they develop the Moreno Valley Safe Routes to School Program to ensure children and their families are safe as they walk and bike to and from school. The Community Now Volunteer Crossing Guard Assistant Training and Certification is a one-day comprehensive instructional seminar that provides the supplemental training required to become a certified California crossing guard assistant.

Community Now will provide at no cost a Safe Routes to School training guide, a California Crossing Guard training guide, a LiveScan background check, and certification testing. Topics covered during training include conflict resolution, safety instruction, hazard identification and practical application in the field.

WHEN: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 25

WHERE: Community Now, 14340 Elsworth St., Suite 112, Moreno Valley 92553

DETAILS: Community Now’s Moreno Valley Safe Routes to School program encompasses 28 elementary schools in the Moreno Valley and Val Verde School Districts, encouraging families to leave their cars at home and walk or ride a bicycle to school. Community Now works exclusively with the districts to promote Walk/Roll Days and Bicycle Rodeos throughout the school year that are fun, healthy and educational while helping bring diverse communities together.

Essential to the Safe Routes to School program are community volunteers committed to the safety and education of school children, to provide leadership and act as liaisons between their neighborhoods and the school sites as certified California crossing guard assistants.
