BALDWIN PARK – Alberto Garcia from Baldwin Park High School, Miguel Angel Gutierrez from North Park Continuation High School and Samantha Sandoval from Sierra Vista High School are the newly appointed student board members for the 2017-18 academic year.

Garcia presented the first student board report Oct. 10 at Baldwin Park Unified’s Board of Education meeting.

Garcia, a senior at Baldwin Park High School, started his education at Baldwin Park Unified’s Ernest R. Geddes Elementary before continuing at Olive Middle School. He serves as ASB treasurer and has been involved with the dual language program for the last 13 years.

Garcia plans to attend a four-year university to pursue a career in medicine with a focus on the Latino community.

Gutierrez arrived at North Park Continuation High School at the start of the 2017-18 year after completing three years at Sierra Vista High School. He holds a leadership position in ASB and he is a member of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Club.

After he graduates, Gutierrez plans to earn a nursing degree from a four-year university.

Sandoval, a senior at Sierra Vista High School, was a preschooler at Rachel Holliday Children’s Center before attending Kenmore Elementary and then Sierra Vista Junior High. She has served in ASB for six years and is a member of the California Scholarship Federation.

Sandoval plans to attend UCLA to pursue a career as a doctor.
